Welcome to Have Kids, Still Traveling

I met my husband when I was 22.  Before meeting him, I hadn’t travelled much, other than local road trips.  Growing up with a single mother of 2 daughters, we didn’t get to travel.  Our summers consisted of road trips to visit grand parents, or small camping trips close to home.  Travelling outside of July and August was unheard of.  My first ever airplane ride, was when I was 4 or 5 and we flew from Vancouver to Calgary to visit family.  It wouldn’t be until more than 21 years later that I would take my next flight.  In 2012 my husband surprised me with a trip to Hawaii where he ended up proposing to me on the top of Mauna Kea.  I was now addicted to travelling, and it had nothing to do with the fact that I was now engaged (well, maybe just a little bit).  We planned for a short engagement and decided to get married on another Hawaiian Island, so in 2013 we flew to Kauai where we said our vows, followed by our Honeymoon in Maui.

Over the next 6 years we travelled over North America, Europe, Asia and Central America.  We would often get home from one trip, and have the next one already being planned.

Having traveled more than an average amount prior to having kids, when we announced our first child was on the way, we heard from more than one person, “I guess your travel days are over.”  Wait, what?  This thought never occurred to us.  Why can’t we travel with a baby?  We’ve all been on flights with the crying baby in the rows behind us.  Where were all those babies going, if not on vacation?

Waiting for our new family member to join us, we delved right into planning our next trip.  We were not going to sit at home for the next 18 years until we could travel again.  We were determined to prove those naysayers wrong.  Before our son’s second birthday he had been to more places than I had been to my entire life pre marriage.  We hope to continue to inspire his love of travel as he grows, and hope to show him many more destinations.

We now have two boys and will continue to show them the world.

I want to share our stories, experiences, and lessons learned during our travels.   Life with kids is a lot of trial and error, but when you’re in another country, trial and error can be even scarier.  I hope you’ll stay tuned and follow along for new posts on various topics involving travel with the whole family.  Comments are encouraged, and if there are certain topics you are looking for more information on, feel free to ask.  I look forward to passing on my experience travelling with our sons around the world.

Stay tuned for more!
